2. How much do they eat? If fed a commerical high quality dog
food, 4-8 cups a day depending on it age, weight and activity level.

do they get? Adult females usually weigh between 90-120 lbs and males 120-150 lbs.

6. How much do they cost? The cost of a puppy is a fraction of
the cost of raising a Leonberger. As with any large breed dog, the cost of food, veterinary care, medications and other
things needed to raise a healthy dog are increased just due to the size of the dog.
7. How hard
are they to train? Leos are intelligent and learn quickly. They do need lots of socialization and training from
the very beginning to promote a wonderful companion who is comfortable in any situation.
8. What were
they bred for? Leos were bred to be companions and working dogs. They need to be with their families but also
like to have jobs. They are wonderful therapy dogs, good with children, excel at obedience, rally, carting, rescue work
and agility. They are most content when they have a variety of jobs.

How long do they live? The lifespan is around 8 years old. Some have lived to 12-13 years old.
10. What are their biggest health problem? The Lenberger Club of America has provided guidelines
for LCA registered kennels/breeders to use and follow for their breeding practices. These guidelines have been
used to keep health issues such as thryoid problems, hip and elbow dysplasia, and eye problems to a minimum.
The most current health issues are hemagiosarcoma and bone cancer.
